Levels of prevention

Search the newspaper or newspaper website for news stories that describe public health activities. Analyze whether they are an example of one of the three levels of prevention. (Do not search in professional journals for articles). Identify one story that characterizes one of the levels of prevention. You may also use a story that addresses more than one level of prevention. Limit your search to the past six months. In APA style, provide the author, the publication date, the title of the story, the author, the name of the newspaper/news source. Provide a brief summary of the story, then explain why this story meets the criterion for at least one of the levels of prevention. If you are ambitious, you can provide a justification for how the story meets more than one level of prevention. As an example - For tertiary prevention, I could cite: Belluck P. (2021, July 15) Tapping into the brain to help a paralyzed man speak. The New York Times. Tapping Into the Brain to Help a Paralyzed Man Speak - The New York Times (nytimes.com) Summarize the key points. Summary must be well crafted, using own words. Identify and describe key points and clearly describe impact on health. Provide a justification for why this would be an example of the identified level of prevention. Analyze the story to determine if it is an example of one of the levels of prevention: primary, secondary, tertiary. Reflect on what was learnt from the activity and how knowledge gained from the activity can inform your understanding on solving problem in healthcare Here is an example of the justification of the above story: Justification: Implanting electrodes in the brain to help a paralyzed patient communicate by displaying intended words on a screen (Belluck, 2021) can help maximize well-being at the palliative stage of a stroke (DeMarco & Healey-Walsh, 2020). This qualifies as an example of tertiary prevention. If implemented at the beginning of the condition, to mitigate the consequences of speech impairment, this could also qualify as secondary prevention – an attempt at early treatment (DeMarco & Healey-Walsh, 2020). Use key points from textbook and other reading materials to support your points.
